RESEARCH
Minimalism is a faction that not only exists in different fields of art, but also in life. The current minimalism is a faction formed after the Second World War. Its main feature is to restore the original appearance of the object as much as possible, and form the opposite of abstraction in composition, pursuing simplicity. However, the "simplicity" of minimalism also contains the oppression of power, and very few works will present explosive concepts.

According to the most famous modernist architect Mies Van der Rohe said in the mid-twentieth century, ‘less is more’ is the central idea of minimalism. For example, minimalist furniture has straight lines, simple shapes, and visually contrasting structures (wide and narrow). And in the choice of colors, most of these styles of furniture also use black, white, gray and natural wood colors. From another point of view, compared to classic furniture style, this design will reduce people's visual burden, can better allow users to understand and adapt to the process of use.
SKETCH
In the first design, I drew some English letters. All letters are based on sans serifs. Secondly, the X spacing is also designed to be almost equidistant from the vertical edges, because this will make the lowercase letters more neat and coordinated. Among them, the width of these letters is not the same, such as W and M. Secondly, some letters use ascending and descending lines, but I still insist on keeping the main part of the capital letters between the height of the capital letters and the baseline, which can give the audience a good vision.
DEVELOPMENT
Based on class feedback, I made a new draft of the alphabet again. Specifically, for the first edition, tutor’s suggestions were to emphasize strokes and control all letters to make them uniform in size. Therefore, before drawing the letters, first of all, I use a ruler to draw the grids of all the letters. The respective size of these is 6x3cm. Then, draw the outline of the letter with a pencil, and then fill it with dark charcoal. Using this method, I can control the stroke of the font very well, and at the same time make the centers of all letters symmetrical.
PROCESS
First, I scanned the sketch with a machine and put it into Adobe Illustrator. Then, I placed them to normal proportions and sizes, and placed the lines according to the position of the markings. After that, I used the pen tool and graphics tool to depict them. After the drawing, I found that many details did not match the sketch, so I used the anchor tool to modify all the letters. Finally, I applied the rounded corner effect to process some of the corners of the letters.
APPLICATION
When it comes to the use of fonts, the first thing I think of is the diary. This type of font can be directly printed on the cover without adding any graphic elements, which reflect the minimalist design concept. Secondly, printing on a white T-shirt is also a good choice. The combination of black and white tones, coupled with the simplicity of the font itself, is also a minimalist fashion.
